Big + Box: an eCommerce platform for young creatives launches in Uganda

1 Mins read

Big + Box, an eCommerce platform with a goal to celebrate and empower young creatives in the fields of art and crafts has launched in Uganda.

As COVID-19 continues to ravage most parts of the continent, online shopping has continued gaining momentum even after some countries easing their lockdown measures. eCommerce stores have increasingly been established amid the different lockdowns in hopes of reducing in-person visits.

Now the establishment of Big + Box is part of the founder’s commitment to connecting young people to ensure everyone finds pride and joy in wearing local brands and later make the same feeling go across other countries. And as the trend for online sales boomed with the help of the coronavirus, the platform seemingly swooped in at the right time.

While speaking about Big + Box, the CEO and Founder, Esther Ndagire told Afritechpost that;

“The idea for youth visibility and product marketing platform first crossed my mind shortly after I moved to Johannesburg for work. There were so many youth-owned shops in the malls selling all types of products like clothes, sunglasses, bags, shoes, all South African made.

She added that,

“Young South Africans shopped with pride, local brands from fellow youth artisans, even though in some cases the local products were more expensive. This always put a smile on my face.”

The new platform is meant to showcase the artisans and their exceptional workmanship to a global audience by profiling every single entrepreneur that has their products hosted on Big + Box. The founder makes an emphasis on this by having a separate tab for all the featured artisans and their stories on what inspired their work.

Furthermore, the platform offers a variety of products in categories such as local comic books, bags, face masks, pillows, furniture, dresses, accessories, mats and so much more. The platform is also putting in place the option for customers from across the globe to order online and receive these products swiftly no-matter the location.
