The international hacktivist group, Anonymous has taken down the Uganda Police’s website in response to recent police killings in the country.
In a statement posted on their Twitter account, Anonymous explained that they took down the Uganda Police website in response to recent violent government repression & killings. They went on to explain that they made the hack to call for police to respect human lives & the freedom of peaceful assembly and protest.
Anonymous is a decentralized international activist/hacktivist collective/movement that is widely known for its various cyber attacks against several governments, government institutions and government agencies, corporations, and the Church of Scientology.
In the initial hours of the hack, on viewing the official website, users were directed to a “Site can’t be reached” error screen. However, at the moment, it looks like the Police force is trying to gain back access as this has changed and now directs to a database login screen.
We will keep you updated on how this continues.
